General Terms

Gutter - A space between two pages and always must equal double the margin

Margin - The space around your page, minimum 1/4 inch

Image Bleed - When your image runs to the edge of your page

Collate - Gathering two or more sheets of paper together in order

Typesetting - Any digital file to be created, pictures to be scanned or text that is typed

Original - Not to be confused with numbers of sheets, an original is one side of one sheet

RIP Charge (Rastor Image Processing) - Downloading a digital file to a color copier

Stapling Terms

Side Staple - Generally two staples on the left side of a document

Saddle Staple - Generally two staples in the middle of a folded sheet creating a booklet

Corner Staple - A single staple in the corner

Binding Terms

Cerlox Binding - Plastic binding with a spine, ideal for larger books. This type of binding can easily be reopened to add or delete pages from the book

Spiral Binding - A wire coil type binding used for books with no more than 100 pages.  Ideal for books that fold back on themselves.

Perfect Binding - A warp around cover glued to the original document - ie. phone book

Padding - Glueing one side of a stack of paper making a tearoff notepad

Staple and Tapling - Side stapled book with color tape covering spine and staples

Folding Terms

Z Fold - One flap up and one flap down

Parallel Fold - Each flap folding in the same direction.  The flap length can be varied

Single Fold - One fold in a document, anywhere on the document

Double Fold - Folded in half, and then folded in half again
